Fully funded PhD opportunity in Environmental Microbiology and Lung Microbiome Research at the Technical University of Munich, within the international project NANOMICO (Decoding Nanoparticle–Epithelium–Microbiome Interactions in the Human Lung in Early-life).

The project is a joint initiative between TUM and Imperial College London. The successful PhD candidate will investigate how inhaled nanoparticles influence the human respiratory microbiome, microbial community structure and function, biofilm formation, and antimicrobial resistance dynamics.

Research methods and themes include lung-associated microbial isolates, defined microbial communities, cultivation-based approaches, metagenomics, resistome analyses, metabolomics, and microbial interaction models. This is a strong fit for applicants interested in microbiome research, microbial ecology, host–microbe interactions, environmental health, and One Health.

The position offers an international research environment, access to excellent microbiome and multi-omics platforms, close collaboration with Imperial College London, and a planned research stay in London.
