About this position

Fully funded PhD opportunity at the University of Groningen in the Netherlands, within the Re-Ge-NL project: Accelerating the transition to a regenerative, remunerative, and socially supported agricultural sector.

The project focuses on environmental psychology, sustainability transitions, agriculture, and behavioural science. The PhD research will explore how farmers’ identities and motivations influence sustainability transitions, using longitudinal surveys and experimental studies. The role also includes collaboration with multidisciplinary researchers and societal partners, publishing in international journals, presenting at conferences, contributing to policy recommendations, and supporting a limited number of teaching activities.

Eligibility highlights: a (research) Master’s degree in Social Psychology, Environmental Psychology, or a related social science field; experience with quantitative research involving human participants; strong academic writing and communication skills; and interest in sustainability transitions and policy-relevant research. Dutch language proficiency at C1 level is preferred.

Funding: full-time, 4-year PhD appointment with a gross monthly salary of €3,059–€3,881, plus 8% holiday allowance, 8.3% end-of-year bonus, 232 vacation hours per year, and professional development opportunities. The contract starts with one year and may be extended for three more years after positive evaluation.

Deadline: 14 August 2026. Intended start date: 1 November 2026.

Funding details

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
