About this position

The Forage-Livestock Systems Program at Clemson University, led by Dr. Liliane Silva, is recruiting a motivated PhD student to join a research team starting in Fall 2026 or Spring 2027. The project focuses on forage production, nutrient cycling, soil nutrient accumulation, and the sustainability and feasibility of operations in forage-livestock systems.

The successful student will primarily work on a grazing trial using perennial and annual forages to evaluate production and ecosystem services. The role also includes Extension and education activities throughout the degree, supporting information dissemination at statewide and regional levels. This is a strong fit for applicants interested in applied agricultural research, forage research methodology, and outreach.

Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree in Agronomy, Animal Sciences, Crop Sciences, or a related field completed by Fall 2026; strong background in forage research methodology, sampling, and laboratory analysis; prior grazing-trial experience preferred; demonstrated research interest, academic excellence, and publication potential; proficiency with R or SAS; and strong English communication skills.

Funding: the position is fully funded and includes tuition coverage. Continued support depends on satisfactory academic, research, and professional performance.

Application materials: CV, statement of purpose/research interests, academic transcripts, and contact information for three references. Applicants are evaluated on GPA, coursework, letters of recommendation, CV, and letter of intent. Admission to both Clemson University Graduate School and the Animal and Veterinary Sciences graduate program is required.
