Applicants must meet general doctoral entry requirements: a second-cycle degree, or at least 240 higher education credits including 60 credits at second-cycle level, or equivalent knowledge. Specific entry requirements for doctoral studies in international relations include a completed first-cycle programme in international relations or equivalent of at least 90 credits, a completed second-cycle programme in international relations or equivalent of at least 30 credits including at least 15 credits of independent thesis work at second-cycle level, an additional 60 credits from higher education with theoretical specialisation relevant to the doctoral studies, and sufficient English proficiency. Selection is based on independence in analysis and planning, teamwork and communication, ability to meet deadlines, ability to formulate research problems, methodological and scientific maturity, demonstrated experience with quantitative social science research methods, and professional communication. Meritorious experience includes international collaborative project work, research on EU enlargement, large-scale quantitative data collection and analysis, scholarly publications, and scientific outreach.
