About this position
Fully funded PhD opportunity in Neurochemistry, Neurobiology, and Behavior at the Centre de Recherche en Neurosciences de Lyon (CRNL), Lyon, France.
The project focuses on the role of branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) in regulating the sleep-wake cycle in Drosophila. The student will work with Dr. Laurent Seugnet (WAKING team) and Dr. Sandrine Parrot (NeuroDialyTics facility), in collaboration with Dr. Thomas Riemensperger in Cologne, Germany.
Research and training include monitoring BCAA levels in hemolymph and brain, assessing intracellular BCAA levels in GABAergic and dopaminergic circuits, and evaluating BCAA-dependent pathways using calcium imaging and a newly developed biosensor. The position also offers training in advanced HPLC, Drosophila molecular genetics, neurobiology, sleep behavioral analysis, and confocal and FRET microscopy.
This is a 3-year funded PhD with a salary of €2,300 gross/month (about €1,840 net). Preferred start date is November 2026, flexible up to December 2026. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis until a suitable candidate is recruited.
Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree or equivalent in biology or a related field, plus a strong interest in neurochemistry, metabolism, and sleep-wake behavior. Prior experience in HPLC and Drosophila neurobiology is an advantage.
