About this position
Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Goa Campus is advertising a fully funded PhD Research Scholar position under the PhD-DRIVE Program (SIRE) in a highly applied, product-oriented project.
Research topic: Development of thermally efficient prosthetic liners with phase-change materials for people with lower-limb amputation. The work combines biomechanics, assistive devices, medical devices, mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, and materials science. The scholar will design, model, prototype, and clinically validate a heat-mapped liner tailored to Indian conditions, with a pathway to commercialization through a start-up or technology licensing.
Funding: ₹55,000–₹60,000 per month as per PhD-DRIVE norms, plus seed funding for prototyping, full incubation support, and a 4-year full-time PhD.
Eligibility highlights: BE/B.Tech/BS and/or ME/M.Tech/M.S. (First Class) in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, or Biomechanics. Applicants should have strong fundamentals in product design, applied mechanics, materials science, basic optimization/computational methods, CAD, and hands-on prototyping. Prior prosthetics knowledge is optional; entrepreneurial drive is strongly valued.
Supervisors: Prof. Ganesh M. Bapat and Prof. Vadiraj Hemadri.
Deadline: 21 July 2026, 11:00 PM IST.
How to apply: Use the application link provided in the post and submit before the deadline. This is a strong fit for candidates interested in translational research, assistive technology, and venture creation.
