About this position
Cancer Research UK Manchester Centre at The University of Manchester is advertising fully funded PhD opportunities in Cancer Sciences for the 2027 cohort.
Research areas span cancer sciences, including clinical and non-clinical cancer research, with opportunities in basic and discovery research, molecular pathology, digital pathology, and cross-disciplinary clinical trials. Students will work in world-class facilities such as the Oglesby Cancer Research Building and the Paterson Building, and collaborate with researchers and clinicians at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.
Three pathways are available: Non-Clinical Studentships (open to applicants without a science background if they have the ambition to build a career in cancer-related research), Clinical Research Training Fellowships (for post-registration clinicians), and Leeds-Manchester Clinical Research Training Fellowships (a collaborative option with the University of Leeds).
Funding is strong: non-clinical studentships are funded for 4 years and include project running costs, UK/Home tuition fees, and an annual stipend of £22,500. Clinical pathways are funded for 3 years and include project running costs, UK/Home tuition fees, and a salary aligned with the applicant’s current NHS salary.
The application deadline is 23 November 2026 at 12:00pm. Applicants should check the CRUK Manchester Centre website for full eligibility details and then apply for the relevant pathway.
