About this position
Two fully funded PhD positions are available in Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of New Hampshire. The openings are in the Energy Control and Optimization Laboratory (ECO Lab) with Prof. Arezoo Hasankhani, and the research focus is marine cyber-physical systems.
The post highlights two project directions: (1) cybersecurity for marine cyber-physical systems, including AI/ML-based protection against cyberattacks, marine communications security, anomaly detection, and penetration testing of control systems; and (2) control for marine cyber-physical systems, including model predictive control and reinforcement learning for marine systems and RL-based controller design.
Applicants should have a Master’s degree in ECE, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field. Project-specific preparation is important: cybersecurity and/or AI/ML for Project 1, and control plus reinforcement learning for Project 2. Strong Python and/or MATLAB skills are required, along with teamwork and communication skills. Experience with cyber-physical systems such as AUVs, marine microgrids, or wave energy is preferred; electromechanical or multidisciplinary systems experience, publications, or industry experience are considered a plus.
The positions are described as fully funded, and the lab mentions access to ocean engineering facilities and the Atlantic Marine Energy Center (AMEC). The post does not give a formal deadline; it indicates a Fall 2026 / Spring 2027 start.
To apply, send a single PDF CV and optional publications to [email protected]. In the email subject line, write “Prospective PhD Student – Project 1” or “Project 2”, and specify which project you want to be considered for.
