About this position

Wu Lin, Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida, is recruiting for research opportunities in LLM pre-training and numerical optimization.

He is looking for 1–2 full-time research assistants, preferably senior undergraduate or master’s students, to join his lab in the fall. He also welcomes applications for fully funded PhD positions for Fall admission (domestic students only) and Spring admission.

Research themes include systems/distributed programming, numerical optimization, and training dynamics, with work connected to modern machine learning and large language model training. Students will collaborate with Wu Lin and external collaborators from Mila, Vector Institute, and RIKEN-AIP, and may also interact with students at Stanford, Cambridge, Toronto, Tokyo, and ETH Zurich.

For PhD students, the post highlights paid research internships at Mila, Vector Institute, or RIKEN-AIP, support for at least one industry internship, and guaranteed travel support for at least one conference. Additional support may be available for domestic and international conference travel after publishing a first-author paper at a top-tier ML venue such as ICML, ICLR, or NeurIPS.

Interested applicants should email [email protected] with a CV and a short explanation of fit. Full-time research assistant interviews are planned for June, and selected candidates will be contacted by the end of May or early June.
