Fully Funded PhD Positions in LLM Pre-training and Numerical Optimization

Wu Lin , Assistant Professor at the University of Central Florida , is recruiting for research opportunities in LLM pre-training and numerical optimization . He is looking for 1–2 full-time research assistants , preferably senior undergraduate or master’s students , to join his lab in the fall. He also welcomes applications for fully funded PhD positions for Fall admission (domestic students only) and Spring admission . Research themes include systems/distributed programming , numerical optimization , and training dynamics , with work connected to modern machine learning and large language model training. Students will collaborate with Wu Lin and external collaborators from Mila , Vector Institute , and RIKEN-AIP , and may also interact with students at Stanford, Cambridge, Toronto, Tokyo, and ETH Zurich. For PhD students, the post highlights paid research internships at Mila, Vector Institute, or RIKEN-AIP, support for at least one industry internship , and guaranteed travel support for at least one conference. Additional support may be available for domestic and international conference travel after publishing a first-author paper at a top-tier ML venue such as ICML , ICLR , or NeurIPS .
