About this position

Two fully funded PhD positions are available in Resilient Control and Estimation for Electrified Vehicles within the 2025 USP-CNRS Joint PhD Program. The projects are carried out in an international cotutelle framework between LAMIH-UPHF (France) and Poli-USP (Brazil), with the expected start date in October 2026.

The research focuses on electrified vehicles, resilient control, fault-tolerant control, estimation, fault diagnosis, vehicle-battery systems, LPV/nonlinear control, observer design, battery aging, and hybrid physics-informed/data-driven modeling. The two complementary topics are: one PhD mainly at LAMIH-UPHF, Valenciennes, France, centered on resilient and fault-tolerant control of coupled vehicle-battery systems; and one PhD mainly at Poli-USP, São Paulo, Brazil, centered on hybrid modeling, estimation, and fault diagnosis for coupled vehicle-battery systems.

The post indicates supervision by Anh-Tu Nguyen, Sébastien Delprat, Luciano Frezzato, and Bruno Angélico. The program offers joint supervision, long research stays between France and Brazil, access to experimental platforms, and strong publication/career potential.

Eligibility highlights: master’s degree or equivalent in control engineering, mechatronics/robotics, or a related field; strong automatic control background; excellent programming skills; English fluency required; French and/or Portuguese not necessary. Helpful extras include machine learning, vehicle dynamics, battery modeling, Matlab/Simulink, Python, and real-time experimentation.

How to apply: email [email protected] and [email protected] with a CV, transcripts, supporting documents, and a short cover letter. Applicants should clearly indicate whether they prefer the France-based position, the Brazil-based position, or both.
