About this position

The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Sustainable Sound Futures is now accepting applications for fully funded PhD studentships starting in September 2026. This prestigious programme is a collaboration between the University of Salford, University of Sheffield, University of Bristol, and University of Southampton, with support from over fifty industry and government partners. Students will have access to world-class facilities such as the Salford Acoustics Research Centre, Wind Tunnel Facility in Bristol, Institute of Sound and Vibration Research, and the School of Computer Science at Sheffield. The CDT offers a unique interdisciplinary training environment focused on acoustics, sustainability, and the future of sound.

The curriculum is designed to provide deep specialist knowledge in acoustics while also developing transferable skills and a broad understanding of sound in industry, society, and the public sector. Applicants should have a strong academic background in engineering, physics, mathematics, computer science, psychology, audiology, or environmental science, and be passionate about interdisciplinary research.

Successful candidates will receive full funding, including tuition and a stipend, and will benefit from close collaboration with academic and industry experts. The application deadline is August 1, 2026, and interested students are encouraged to explore the projects and attend the informational webinar on November 5, 2025.
