Fully Funded Postdoc and PhD Opportunities in AI/ML for Urban Water Supply Infrastructure at İzmir Institute of Technology İzmir Institute of Technology in Italy

Two fully funded research openings are available under the TÜBİTAK 2232-A International Fellowship for Outstanding Researchers for the D-WISE project, Digital Transformation of Urban Water Supply Infrastructure Through Inclusive Decision Support System, hosted at İzmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH), Department of Civil Engineering, Türkiye.

The call includes a Postdoctoral Research Fellowship and an AI-focused PhD scholarship. The project sits at the intersection of Computer Science, Civil Engineering, Environmental Science, Mathematics, and Industrial Engineering, with strong emphasis on AI/ML, deep learning, optimization, predictive analytics, decision-support systems, water resources engineering, and hydraulic engineering.

Postdoc track: candidates may come from either (1) AI, data science, optimization, machine learning/deep learning, predictive analytics, data-driven modelling, and computational DSS, or (2) water resources and hydraulic engineering, including water-loss management, leakage detection, pipeline hydraulics, transient diagnostics, urban water-supply modelling, and governance. Responsibilities include high-impact research, field experimental campaigns in Ankara and İzmir, experimental setup, lab infrastructure, field data collection, and co-supervision of MSc/PhD students.

PhD track: the scholarship is aimed at candidates from Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI & Data Science, Industrial Engineering, or Applied Mathematics. Desired expertise includes machine learning, deep learning, optimization algorithms, intelligent decision-support systems, DRL, Physics-Informed Machine Learning (PIML), and Explainable AI (XAI). A background in water/hydraulic engineering is helpful but not required.

Funding: the postdoc stipend is 43,500 TL/month net, with travel and accommodation for field experiments fully covered by the project budget. The PhD stipend is 32,500 TL/month for full-time study or 8,500 TL/month for part-time study. The post notes that the positions are project-bound and not permanent tenure, and that the stipend is intended to cover basic local living costs in Türkiye.
