About this position

Funded PhD opportunity at Queen Mary University of London in Human-Robot Teaming with remotely deployed robot fleets.

The project sits in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science and focuses on how humans can effectively monitor, supervise, and collaborate with multiple robots in complex real-world settings such as disaster response, infrastructure inspection, security, logistics, and healthcare. Research directions include multimodal supervisory interfaces, intelligent assistant agents, variable autonomy, and computational approaches to shared understanding and shared situational awareness between humans and robots.

Suitable for candidates with backgrounds in Computer Science, Engineering, Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, Cognitive Science, or Human-Computer Interaction. Strong programming skills and experience with autonomous systems or human factors research are especially valued. The research direction will be shaped by the student’s interests and refined into a detailed proposal during the first months of the PhD.

Funding: home-rate tuition plus a London stipend at QMUL rates (currently £22,618/year in 2026/27) for up to 3 years. Non-home/non-UK students may apply, but they must cover the tuition fee difference themselves because no additional funding or fee waiver is available for that gap.

Funding details

Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
