About this position
Funded PhD opportunity at Coventry University in the Centre for Discoveries in Life Science, within the Midlands Integrative Biosciences Training Partnership (MIBTP).
This project focuses on intracellular pathways, GPCR signalling, anthracycline treatment, and the molecular mechanisms behind drug-induced vascular injury (DIVI). The research aims to understand how anti-cancer drugs such as doxorubicin alter GPCRs and downstream signalling pathways, with a translational goal of widening the range of anti-cancer therapies and improving mitigation strategies for cardiovascular side effects.
Planned work includes transfecting cell lines with recombinant GPCR constructs, treating cells with anthracyclines, investigating intracellular signalling mechanisms and pathways involved in DIVI, identifying common GPCR-linked mediators, and evaluating drug-GPCR interactions using computational structural methods.
The studentship is part of a broader doctoral training partnership involving Coventry University, the University of Warwick, the University of Birmingham, the University of Leicester, Aston University, and Harper Adams University. Students from a wide diversity of academic backgrounds are encouraged to apply, and the project is based in Coventry, United Kingdom.
Funding includes full tuition fees at the UK rate, a tax-free annual stipend of £21,805 (academic year 2026-27), a travel/conference budget, a consumables budget, and use of a MacBook Pro for the duration of the programme. Coventry University also covers the difference between UK and international tuition fees.
Eligibility: minimum 2:1 first degree in a relevant discipline/subject area, with at least 60% in the project element or equivalent and 60% overall module average. English language requirements are IELTS Academic 7.0 overall with 6.5 in each section, or TOEFL iBT 95 overall with 21 in each section.
How to apply: check your eligibility, complete the ED&I form (which also serves as an expression of interest), then complete the application form. For administrative questions, contact [email protected].
