About this position

The URA-Sandia Graduate Student Summer Fellowship Program at Sandia National Laboratories offers a 12-week summer research experience for graduate students interested in Radiation Science, Electrical Engineering, and High Energy Density Science. The fellowship is administered through ORISE/Zintellect and is designed to give students hands-on exposure to national laboratory R&D, mentoring by SNL technical staff, and professional development through meetings, events, tours, and research presentations.

Selected fellows may work within Sandia’s broader research foundations, including bioscience, computing and information science, engineering science, earth science, materials science, nanodevices and microsystems, and radiation/electrical/high energy density science. The program emphasizes experimental, computational, or analytical research, scientific communication, and understanding how STEM research supports national security missions.

Location: Albuquerque, New Mexico or Livermore, California.

Funding: Stipend support is provided, with weekly rates varying by degree level and location. A dislocation allowance may also be available.

Eligibility highlights: Applicants must be full-time graduate students pursuing a Master’s or Doctoral degree, be at least 18 years old, be a U.S. citizen, and remain enrolled through Fall 2027. Students graduating in Spring 2027 or earlier are not eligible.
