About this position

The University of Antwerp, a leading European institution, invites applications for a full-time Graduate Teaching & Research Assistant position in the field of resilient wireless networks. This opportunity is based in the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science, and is embedded within the renowned IDLab research group, which specializes in Internet technologies and distributed intelligence. IDLab offers access to advanced research infrastructure, including a city-wide wireless network testbed, an indoor SDR testbed for next-generation wireless communications and sensing, and a GPU Lab for machine learning model training. The group is jointly affiliated with the University of Antwerp and imec, providing a dynamic and collaborative environment for cutting-edge research.

As a graduate teaching & research assistant, you will join the Academic Assistant Staff (AAP) and dedicate at least 50% of your time to preparing and defending a PhD thesis. The research project focuses on performance modelling and optimization of 6G radio access networks (RANs) under adverse conditions such as natural disasters or deliberate attacks, with a particular emphasis on enhancing RAN resilience to power grid failures. You will investigate dynamic reconfiguration and adaptive resource management strategies to ensure graceful network degradation and self-healing capabilities. The work will involve analytical modelling, simulations, and real-world experimentation, offering a comprehensive approach to advancing the field of resilient wireless networks.

In addition to research, you will support and deliver high-quality teaching in the Bachelor of Computer Science program, assist in developing teaching materials, evaluate exercises and exams, and supervise students, including their Master dissertations. You will also contribute to the department’s academic and societal service activities, participate in student recruitment and alumni events, and serve on various boards and committees.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in computer science, applied mathematics, or a closely related field, or be on track to obtain it by the start date. Excellent academic performance, strong research and teaching skills, motivation for professional development, and a commitment to quality, integrity, creativity, and cooperation are essential. The appointment is for two years, with the possibility of renewal up to a maximum of six years, and includes a competitive salary, ecocheques, Internet-connectivity allowance, and commuting benefits.

The planned start date is 1 April 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. Most work will be conducted at The Beacon (research) and Campus Middelheim (teaching), providing a stimulating and supportive environment. The University of Antwerp is committed to diversity, inclusion, and equal opportunities, and encourages candidates from all backgrounds to apply.

To apply, submit your application via the University of Antwerp’s online job platform by 29 January 2026, including a motivation letter, academic CV, and grade transcripts. For questions about the application process, contact [email protected]. For job-specific inquiries, reach out to Prof. Jeroen Famaey at [email protected].
