About this position

IMMUFELLOW is an interdisciplinary and intersectoral postdoctoral fellowship programme for future leaders in immunology, jointly run by the University of Turku (UTU) and Åbo Akademi University (ÅAU) in Turku, Finland. The programme is funded through the European Union’s Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions COFUND scheme together with the two universities, and it supports three-year research fellowships for self-designed projects in the broad field of immunology.

Up to 11 positions are available in this call: 9 at the University of Turku and 2 at Åbo Akademi University. The posts are fixed-term for 36 months and start in April/May 2027. The call is open to internationally recruited postdoctoral researchers who want to develop independent research careers in immunology and related fields.

Applicants may work across basic, translational, and clinical immunology, as well as diagnostics, drug development, and health economics, provided the proposal aligns with the core research strengths of UTU or ÅAU. The programme emphasizes scientific excellence, interdisciplinary collaboration, intersectoral mentoring, and career development beyond academia. Researchers will join a structured community with monthly seminars, networking opportunities, and access to training in science, technology, entrepreneurship, and regulatory good practices.

The positions are aimed at highly motivated researchers with a completed doctoral degree and a strong publication and research record. The PhD must be completed by the application deadline and must normally have been awarded no more than 10 years earlier, excluding documented career breaks. Applicants must also satisfy the MSCA mobility rule and must not have lived or worked in Finland for more than 12 months in the 36 months before the deadline. Successful candidates are required to reside in Finland and to place their project within an existing research unit at UTU or ÅAU.

Funding is substantial and includes a salary of around €4,500 gross per month, plus possible mobility and family allowances under MSCA rules. Additional support may include annual travel funding, research costs, training costs, and innovation funding. The programme also offers flexible working arrangements, occupational health care, and a supportive international research environment with a focus on equality, diversity, open science, and responsible research practices.

Applications must be submitted in English via the relevant university recruitment system: TalentAdore for UTU or LAURA for ÅAU. A full set of eight PDF attachments is required, including doctoral certificate, CV, publication list, research plan, research plan abstract, ethics self-assessment, initial data management plan, and a letter of support from the host laboratory. The deadline is 19 October 2026 at 23:59 (EEST).
