About this position

Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), through its International Water Research Institute (IWRI) in Benguerir, Morocco, is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher in pretreatment processes for seawater desalination. This position sits within a funded project supported by OCP Green Water and is aimed at strengthening research and innovation in water treatment and desalination technologies.

The successful candidate will work in a dynamic, collaborative, and interdisciplinary environment focused on applied research for real-world water challenges. The research theme is seawater desalination pretreatment, with particular emphasis on media filtration processes. The role combines laboratory, pilot-scale, and field-based work, making it well suited to researchers interested in both fundamental understanding and practical implementation.

Key responsibilities include designing and setting up a pilot-scale media filtration process for seawater pretreatment, developing operation and maintenance protocols, organizing and conducting field missions and on-site trials, and collecting and analysing operational data. The postdoctoral researcher will also diagnose performance issues, propose corrective measures and process improvements, prepare technical reports and presentations, contribute to research proposals and funding applications, disseminate results in high-impact publications and conferences, and supervise or mentor undergraduate and graduate students.

Applicants should hold a PhD in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a closely related discipline. The post asks for up to 2 years of relevant experience in desalination and filtration systems, knowledge of transport phenomena with emphasis on mass transfer in column filtration systems, and water quality analysis experience. Hands-on media filtration experience is considered a strong advantage. The university also seeks evidence of research project involvement, creativity, strong communication and teamwork skills, willingness to travel for fieldwork, a valid driver’s licence, and fluency in English and French.

The appointment is a 1-year fixed-term contract with the possibility of a one-year extension. Applications must include a cover letter, a detailed CV with publication list, a research concept note of up to 3 pages, and two recommendation letters. The start date is as soon as possible. Interested candidates should apply via the listed application portal.
