Master’s and PhD Assistantship in Materials Innovation, Nanoelectronics and Carbon Nanotube Devices at NIMS / University of Tsukuba National Institute for Materials Science in Japan

Applications are open for the Master’s and PhD in Materials Innovation at the National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) × University of Tsukuba joint graduate school program.

The research direction is atomic mechanisms to nanoelectronics, with topics including ultra-scaled carbon nanotube transistors, molecular-junction devices, room-temperature quantum transport, THz nanoelectronics, in-situ TEM observation, electrical measurements of nanodevices, and AI-assisted device design, fabrication optimization, and microscopy analysis.

Funding: NIMS Graduate Research Assistantship offers about ¥160,000/month for master’s students and about ¥200,000/month for doctoral students, plus a ¥300,000 start-up support grant. The assistantship is employment-based and includes industrial accident compensation insurance.

Eligibility highlights: admission to the relevant University of Tsukuba graduate program is required; applicants must have sufficient research capability; a valid TOEFL iBT, TOEIC L&R, or IELTS Academic score from within the past two years is required.
