About this position

Two MS positions or one PhD position are available in Pine Genetics and Forest Resilience at Auburn University (College of Forestry, Wildlife and Environment).

The students will work with Dr. Hao Chen, Dr. Chris Anderson, and Dr. Ajay Sharma on topics spanning forest genetics, forest management, genomic prediction, forest growth modeling, and pine establishment under salinity stress. The PhD option connects both areas through a focused dissertation developed with the advising team.

Research activities may include analysis of public genomic data, genomic prediction, economic comparisons of planting density and genetic gain in loblolly pine, greenhouse experiments, Alabama field trials, and testing loblolly and slash pine genetic material and ectomycorrhizal fungi.

Eligible applicants should have a bachelor's degree in forestry, biology, ecology, plant or soil science, natural resources, statistics, or a related field. A master's degree and GRE scores are preferred.

To apply, email Dr. Hao Chen with a single PDF including a CV, one-page research statement, unofficial transcripts, and contact details for three references. Copy the other two supervisors and state your preferred degree and research area.

Applications are reviewed through November 15, 2026. Start date is January 2027 or Fall 2027.
