About this position
The University of Iowa’s Department of Health, Sport, and Human Physiology is inviting applications for an open-rank, 9-month, non-tenure-track faculty position in Exercise Science at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Practice or Instruction. The appointment begins in August 2026 (preferred start date August 19, 2026; January 2027 may also be considered).
The successful candidate will coordinate and teach laboratory courses in Applied Exercise Physiology, Exercise Testing and Prescription, and Behavioral and Clinical Health Assessment, with possible additional teaching in their area of expertise. This is an in-person role based on campus in Iowa City, Monday through Friday.
Required qualifications include a master’s degree or PhD in exercise science, kinesiology, health promotion, or a related field by the start date; at least 3 years of professional experience in exercise testing, exercise prescription, and/or clinical behavioral health assessments; strong communication skills; and demonstrated undergraduate teaching experience as a teaching assistant or course instructor.
Preferred qualifications include experience as a primary instructor for laboratory courses, familiarity with exercise science lab equipment and technology (such as metabolic carts, air plethysmography, force plates, cycle ergometers, and related software), familiarity with clinical and behavioral assessments (blood pressure, anthropometry, biochemical measures, eating patterns, physical activity, sleep), the ability to teach didactic courses in exercise science or related curricula, and relevant certifications such as ACSM or NSCA.
