About this position

Daniel K. Hasegawa’s lab at the USDA Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) in Salinas, California is recruiting an ORISE Postdoctoral Fellow in Vector Entomology.

This two-year research opportunity focuses on vector entomology, plant pathology, and integrated pest management in vegetable crops. The project examines insect vectors and plant viruses, with particular emphasis on interactions among western flower thrips, Impatiens necrotic spot virus (INSV), native plants, cover crops, and other beneficial vegetation. The goal is to develop sustainable strategies for reducing insect-transmitted plant diseases.

Applicants should have a recent or soon-to-be completed Ph.D. and interests in vector entomology, plant pathology, or related disciplines. The position is open to U.S. citizens only.

Funding includes a stipend of $93,000–$96,000 per year. The anticipated start date is January 2027, and applications are reviewed on a rolling basis through 2026-09-25.

To apply, use the linked Zintellect application page and review the full position description. Interested candidates may also contact the lab directly to discuss the project at the Plant Health 2026 meeting in Rhode Island.
