The role is centered on cutting-edge research in Aerospace Engineering, with related themes in aviation communications, navigation, surveillance, information and communication engineering, and electronic devices/equipment. Successful applicants will be assigned to one of ENRI’s existing research domains: air traffic management, navigation systems, or surveillance communications.

ENRI describes itself as Japan’s only research and development institution for air traffic systems. Its work includes future air traffic management, flight path setting, safety verification, airspace design and management, flight coordination, aeronautical communication systems, satellite navigation, and air traffic control radar, with the goal of improving safety, efficiency, and environmental performance.

This is a full-time, permanent researcher role with no fixed term (non-tenure-track). The salary starts at about 3 million yen annually, with a basic monthly salary of 316,912 yen including regional allowance, plus commuting, housing, dependent, overtime, and bonus-related allowances. Teleworking is available, and the first and second interviews can be conducted online.

Eligibility requires a master’s degree in electronics, information and communication engineering, mathematics, physics, aerospace engineering, systems engineering, or transportation engineering, or expected completion by fiscal year 2026. Applicants must also have the Japanese and English language skills needed for the job.

The application window is 2026-09-01 to 2026-10-09 (must arrive by the deadline). Applications are accepted via the JREC-IN Portal web application or by postal mail using the specified forms. Required documents include a CV, publication list, transcripts, questionnaire, and up to three reprints of major papers.

Work location: Chofu City, Tokyo, Japan. Hiring is planned for 2027-04-01, with earlier appointment possible for those who have already completed the master’s degree.
