About this position
Richard Yu Liu, Assistant Professor of Physics at Northeastern University, is recruiting two graduate students and one postdoctoral researcher for his group in the Department of Physics.
The lab focuses on quantum materials and AI-enabled experimentation, including automated atomic fabrication, adaptive scanning probe microscopy, and closed-loop, high-throughput materials discovery. This is a strong fit for applicants interested in experimental condensed matter physics, advanced materials characterization, and machine-learning-assisted laboratory workflows.
For the graduate student openings, applicants with backgrounds in physics, materials science, or quantum materials are encouraged to apply. For the postdoctoral position, the preferred background includes experience in scanning probe microscopy, quantum materials growth and characterization, or AI/ML for experimentation. Experience with diffraction, spectroscopy, or transport measurements is welcome but not required, and prior AI/ML experience is explicitly not necessary.
The expected start date is January 1, 2027. Interested candidates should email their CV to [email protected]. The post also points to the group website for more information about the research program.
