About this position

Agrotecnio, the Fundació Centre de Recerca en Agrotecnologia in Lleida, Spain, is offering a fully funded PhD position within the BIOCRAFT project (Horizon Europe, reference 101307230). The project addresses the urgent need for climate-resilient, high-yielding and nutritionally enhanced crops through disruptive biotechnology, integrating multiplex genome editing, predictive AI, high-throughput phenotyping, and multi-omic analytics.

The PhD researcher will work on genome-edited rice plants designed to tolerate biotic and abiotic stresses, with a particular focus on plant–fungal interactions and the response of rice lines to Magnaporthe oryzae, the causal agent of rice blast disease. The role includes laboratory experiments, data analysis using advanced statistical methods, preparation of scientific manuscripts, and active participation in project synthesis, dissemination, co-creation workshops, and international consortium meetings.

This opportunity is suitable for candidates with a background in biotechnology, biology, agriculture, chemistry, environmental sciences, or related fields. Prior hands-on experience with rice or Magnaporthe oryzae is advantageous but not essential. Experience with molecular biology techniques, data handling, and scientific writing is expected. The position is open to highly motivated researchers with strong curiosity, communication skills, and the ability to work both independently and in a multidisciplinary, international setting.

The appointment is full-time for 37.5 hours per week and starts on 1 October 2026. The annual gross salary is 24,000 EUR, with full social security and health coverage, plus paid holidays and leave under national labor regulations. The application deadline is 15 September 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Madrid).

To apply, candidates should submit a single PDF in English containing a cover letter, CV, contact details for two professional references, a copy or link to the Master’s thesis, publication list if available, and degree certificates. Applications should be emailed to [email protected]. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an online interview.
