About this position
PhD Candidate in Animal Health and Brucellosis Research at IRTA-CReSA in Bellaterra, Barcelona, Spain.
This doctoral opening is part of a coordinated project funded by the Spanish State Research Agency (AEI) on Brucella placental pathogenesis and the development of vaccines against animal brucellosis. The selected PhD candidate will join the Animal Health Program team and receive multidisciplinary training in microbiology, molecular biology, cell culture, animal experimentation, immunology, omics, and applied biotechnology.
Key researcher: Dr. María Jesús Grilló (CSIC Professor of Research).
Research tasks include experimental design and execution, laboratory work in BSL-3 and animal facilities, data collection and analysis, literature review, and contributions to scientific reports, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications.
Eligibility highlights: Bachelor’s degree in Veterinary Medicine and/or a Master’s degree in Microbiology, Biotechnology, Tissue Engineering, Animal Health, or a related field; or eligibility to access a doctoral programme in Spain. Applicants should have knowledge of laboratory techniques relevant to biological/biomedical research, especially molecular biology and cell culture, plus good English. Teamwork, adaptability, motivation, scientific curiosity, and commitment to research excellence are required. Candidates must not already hold a PhD. Catalan and Spanish are valued.
Funding: 4-year contract. Salary is 23,322.09 EUR gross/year for years 1–3 and 26,325.47 EUR gross/year for year 4. The doctoral grant also provides up to 7,000 EUR extra funding for research stays and covers tuition fees for the four years of the PhD programme.
