About this position
PhD opportunity in battery modelling, electrochemical interfaces, atomistic modelling, first-principles simulations, and machine-learned interatomic potentials at CIC energiGUNE in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain.
The Modelling and Simulation group is recruiting a PhD candidate for e-ChemIn, a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network focused on understanding and engineering electrochemical interfaces for next-generation energy technologies.
The selected doctoral candidate will study how buried electrode–electrolyte interfaces evolve during battery operation, how atoms/ions/charge/defects move across solid–solid interfaces, and how interfacial reactions affect ionic conductivity, degradation, and safety. The project combines computational science, materials science, physics, and chemistry with advanced simulation methods for safer and longer-lasting batteries.
Eligibility highlights: a strong background in physics, chemistry, materials science, computational science, or a related field, plus a strong interest in atomistic modelling and electrochemical energy storage.
This is a three-year PhD position embedded in an international and interdisciplinary MSCA network with academic and industrial partners across Europe. Applications are assessed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
