About this position

UiT The Arctic University of Norway is advertising a PhD candidate / research fellow position in pharmacology at the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health Sciences, in Tromsø, Norway. The project is linked to the research group Cell Signaling and Targeted Therapy and focuses on proximity pharmacology as a new therapeutic strategy for therapy-resistant blood cancer.

The research will investigate how small molecules or bifunctional compounds can bring proteins into proximity to reprogram signaling pathways and restore targeted cell death in cancer cells. The project sits within a strong national and international collaboration involving UiT, University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein in Kiel, KG Jebsen Centre for Myeloid Leukemia at the University of Bergen and Haukeland University Hospital, Oslo University Hospital, and the University of Dundee.

Academic field keywords: pharmacology, cancer biology, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmacy, protein chemistry, recombinant DNA techniques, cell signaling, targeted therapy, hematological cancer.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should hold a master’s degree or equivalent in molecular science, molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, biotechnology, pharmacy or a related field. Experimental laboratory experience is required, and experience with recombinant DNA methods, protein chemistry, or molecular cell biology techniques is expected. Teaching experience and bioinformatics are considered positive. Good English skills and knowledge of Norwegian or another Scandinavian language are required. Admission to the PhD programme is a prerequisite, and applicants must meet the master’s degree and grade requirements described in the ad.

Funding: the position is a four-year PhD fellowship. The standard PhD study period is three years, with the fourth year allocated 25% to teaching or other career-enhancing tasks. The advertised salary is normally NOK 580,000 per year with a 3% annual increase.

Application: submit the application through Jobbnorge before the deadline and include the required documents: motivation letter, CV, official transcripts and degree certificates, translations if needed, language documentation, references, and the master’s thesis plus any scientific works.

Deadline: 8 November 2026.
