These positions are available across several HZI locations in Germany, including Braunschweig, Würzburg, Saarbrücken, and Greifswald. HZI is renowned for its interdisciplinary approach and commitment to innovative solutions in the fight against infectious diseases, offering a vibrant, international research environment.

Successful candidates will join a dynamic community of scientists and have access to state-of-the-art research infrastructure, including BSL-3 facilities, advanced imaging, and cutting-edge omics technologies. The program encourages applicants from a broad spectrum of disciplines, such as microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, chemistry, bioinformatics, physics, and pharmacy, reflecting HZI’s belief in the power of diverse perspectives to drive scientific breakthroughs.

PhD candidates will benefit from a funded position under the German federal pay scale (E13 TVöD Bund, 65%), which includes comprehensive social benefits such as health insurance, pension, and 30 days of paid vacation. Additional advantages include flexible working hours, a family office to support work-life balance, and subsidies for job and national transit tickets. The DO IT-PhD initiative further supports an appreciative workplace culture and equal opportunities.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field and demonstrate excellent English communication skills, an innovative mindset, and the ability to work effectively in an intercultural team.
