About this position
UiT The Arctic University of Norway is advertising a PhD Fellow position in Ancient sedimentary DNA of Freshwater Fish and Ecological Interactions in Europe at the University Museum in Tromsø, Norway.
The project is part of the ERC Synergy project MEMELAND and focuses on ancient sedimentary DNA, freshwater fish, ecological interactions, lake ecosystems, and environmental change across Europe over the last two millennia. The successful candidate will work with a multi-university team on lake coring and analyses related to fish faunas, fish parasites, vegetation, climate, archaeology, and non-amplicon sequencing.
Research collaboration includes teams in Salzburg, eawag Zurich, the University of Oxford, and Charles University Prague. The position is attached to the Research Groups of Natural Sciences and Archaeology, the ArcEcoGEN Aurora Research Centre, and the Freshwater Ecology Group at UiT.
This is a PhD opening for a period of four years. The nominal PhD programme length is three years, with the fourth year distributed as teaching and other duties. Applicants must have a relevant master’s degree and thesis, documented English proficiency, and a project description of up to 4 pages. Experience in ecology, bioarchaeology, palaeoecology, bioinformatics, or genetic data work is an advantage, as is knowledge of fish/aquatic systems and Scandinavian languages.
The position is based in Tromsø, with extensive fieldwork in NW Europe and possible research stays abroad. Salary is normally 550,800 NOK/year with annual increase, plus pension and employee benefits. Apply via Jobbnorge with all required documents before the deadline.
