About this position

PhD fellowship in climate and health epidemiology at the Danish Cancer Society / Danish Cancer Institute in Copenhagen, Denmark.

This PhD position is part of the large EU-funded consortium project U-PATH, Understanding and Preventing Climate-Related Health Risks through Mediating Pathways. The project addresses how climate exposures affect cardiovascular and respiratory disease, and how these effects may be mediated by other environmental exposures such as air pollution, aeroallergens, noise, and indoor overheating.

The PhD student will join the Work, Environment and Cancer research group, a multi-national and interdisciplinary team studying environmental and occupational exposures and their health effects. Main project tasks include harmonizing epidemiological data from cohorts in five countries, contributing data and analyses from a Danish nationwide cohort, conducting measurement campaigns of indoor summer temperatures, developing a model for indoor heat exposure assessment, and coordinating analyses of long-term residential indoor and outdoor heat events in relation to cardiovascular and respiratory disease across cohorts.

Eligibility highlights include a master’s degree completed or nearly completed in public health, epidemiology, statistics, or a related discipline; experience with statistical programming, preferably SAS and/or R; strong planning and collaboration skills; and excellent written and spoken English. Experience with quantitative epidemiological analyses, large register-based datasets, GIS software such as QGIS, peer-reviewed publications, and field data collection will be an advantage.

The appointment is full-time, temporary, and based in Copenhagen. The position starts on 1 January 2027. The application deadline is 15 November 2026 at 23:59 (Europe/Copenhagen). Applicants must submit an online application including a cover letter, CV, master’s diploma or proof of expected completion, and a publication list if available.
