About this position

The Department of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen is offering a PhD fellowship in Real-Time Visual Computing and AI (REVCAI). The project sits at the intersection of computer graphics, computer vision, machine learning, geometry, and high-performance computing, with a strong focus on making visual AI systems fast, efficient, scalable, responsive, and practical to deploy.

The research may explore topics such as real-time 3D reconstruction and representation, neural and point-based representations, efficient rendering and visualisation, high-performance computer vision, efficient machine learning, dynamic and multimodal scene understanding, geometric and physical reasoning, and visual perception for interactive or embodied systems. Applications may include robotics, autonomous systems, interactive 3D applications, augmented and virtual reality, and scientific or biomedical imaging.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Assistant Professor Bernhard Kerbl in the IMAGE section at the University of Copenhagen. The environment is described as collaborative and interdisciplinary, with opportunities to contribute to publications, open-source software, and collaborations with researchers in Denmark and internationally.

This is a full-time PhD position for up to three years. The monthly salary starts at 31,800 DKK (approx. 4,200 EUR, August 2026 level), plus pension contributions and possible supplements depending on qualifications.

Eligibility requires a degree equivalent to a Danish master’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, robotics, applied mathematics, physics, or a related discipline. Strong programming and algorithmic skills are important, and experience with Python, C++, GPU programming, machine learning, computer graphics, computer vision, or optimisation is advantageous. Good English skills are required.

The application deadline is 6 November 2026, 23:59 CET. Applicants must submit an English application with a motivation letter, CV, diplomas and transcripts, publication list if relevant, and referee information if available.
