About this position
University of Copenhagen is advertising a PhD fellowship in translational metabolic human research at the Department of Nutrition, Exercise and Sports, The August Krogh section for Human Physiology.
The project focuses on type 2 diabetes risk, muscle metabolism, glucose uptake, cardiac metabolism, exercise physiology, AMPK, TBC1D4, and GLUT4. It investigates a mutation in the Inuit population associated with a markedly increased risk of type 2 diabetes and includes two linked projects: one on whether physical activity can improve skeletal muscle glucose uptake through training adaptations, and another on how impaired cardiac glucose uptake affects cardiac metabolism using PET-CT.
The position is a PhD opening and is intended for candidates in medicine or a closely related field. Applicants should have a degree equivalent to a Danish master’s degree, experience with clinical trials, skills in human invasive procedures (muscle/adipose tissue sampling, microdialysis), a medical license to practice independently, relevant publications/work experience, and good English and Danish language skills. The project also requires willingness to stay in Greenland for about one year during the training intervention.
Principal supervisors are Professor Jørgen Wojtaszewski (University of Copenhagen) and Professor and Chief Physician Marit Jørgensen (Greenland).
The fellowship is full time for up to 3 years and follows the Danish academic salary agreement. No stipend amount is stated. Enrolment as a PhD student at the University of Copenhagen PhD School is required.
Deadline: 9 August 2026, 23:59 CET.
How to apply: Submit the application electronically via the APPLY NOW portal. Include a motivated letter, CV, diplomas and transcripts, publication list if possible, and reference letters if available. Applications must be in English.
