About this position
PhD fellowship at the University of Copenhagen in virus-host interactions, with a strong focus on RNA viruses, RNA biology, virology, molecular biology, and cell biology.
You will join the group of Professor Troels K. H. Scheel at the Department of Immunology and Microbiology, part of the Copenhagen Hepatitis C Program (CO-HEP). The project explores how viruses hijack cellular systems, with particular interest in hepatitis viruses, flaviviruses, alphaviruses, and animal pathogens. The work is centered on virus-host RNA interactions and their implications for infection and innate immunity.
The project will be defined together with the supervisor and may involve virus cultivation, molecular biology assays, functional characterization, translation and replication reporter assays, CLIP, RNA-seq, and related methods. The position emphasizes method development, independence, motivation, and active participation in the research project.
This is a 3-year PhD fellowship with a possible additional lead-in period as a research assistant of up to 3 months. The position is based in Copenhagen, Denmark, and the working language is English. Salary and pension follow Danish academic agreements, with a starting monthly salary of approximately 30,000 DKK plus pension.
Eligibility: applicants should have a relevant MSc (or expect to obtain one soon) in virology, molecular biology, cellular biology, systems biology, or a related field. Strong academic performance, experience with long-term scientific projects, and background in virology, cell culture, microbiology, high-throughput technology, or immunology are advantageous. Good English skills and strong interpersonal/communication skills are required.
Application deadline: 31 August 2026, 23:59 CET. Apply online and include a motivation letter, CV, certified diploma and transcript, and publication list if available.
