About this position
The Francis Crick Institute is inviting applications for its Doctoral Fellowships for Clinicians, a fully funded three-year PhD opportunity designed for talented clinicians who want to combine clinical training with biomedical discovery research.
Fellows will be based at the Francis Crick Institute in London and will work within the Crick’s PhD programme. The fellowship supports research projects in a world-class scientific environment, with access to well-resourced laboratories, state-of-the-art science and technology platforms, and a supportive research culture.
This opportunity is aimed at clinicians with a strong academic track record and a genuine commitment to research. Applicants must hold GMC registration or an equivalent qualification. The programme brings together a Crick primary supervisor, a secondary supervisor from one of the partner universities, and a dedicated thesis committee.
Funding is comprehensive: successful fellows are fully funded for three years, with coverage for salary, tuition fees, research costs, training, and travel. The salary is set in line with current clinical experience and stage of training, up to but not including NHS consultant level.
The Crick’s research spans multiple disciplines and is focused on improving understanding, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of disease. This makes the programme especially relevant for clinicians interested in translational and biomedical research.
Key dates: application deadline 4 November 2026 at 12:00 (Europe/London), interviews on 25 January 2027, and programme start in September 2027.
More information and the application route are available on the Crick doctoral clinical fellows webpage.
