Montana State University is advertising a Ph.D. Graduate Research Assistantship in Weed Science with the Noguera Lab. The project focuses on herbicide resistance in Bromus tectorum (cheatgrass) in winter cereal production systems. This is a research-intensive opportunity for a doctoral student interested in weed science, plant science, agriculture, and applied field/lab research.

The selected student will conduct field, greenhouse, and laboratory research aimed at characterizing resistance mechanisms and developing effective management strategies. The role also includes experiment design and execution, data collection and analysis, and presenting results at scientific meetings. The position offers professional development through research, extension, and scientific communication activities.

Funding: This is a fully funded assistantship that includes a competitive stipend, tuition waiver, and health insurance.

Eligibility: Applicants should have an M.S. degree in Weed Science or a closely related field. Required experience includes data collection, analysis, and reporting, along with strong written and oral communication skills, the ability to work independently and in a team, and willingness to obtain a pesticide applicator license. Preferred experience includes molecular techniques and data management/analysis software.

Location: Coursework will be completed at the main campus in Bozeman, while research activities will primarily take place at the Southern Agricultural Research Center in Huntley, Montana.
