PhD in Advanced Microscopy and Neuroimmunology for Multiple Sclerosis Research Stockholm University in Sweden

Stockholm University is recruiting a PhD student in advanced microscopy and neuroimmunology for the project Advanced Microscopy for Multiple Sclerosis Research. The position is based in the Computational Microscopy for Cell Biology (CMCB) group at SciLifeLab, Campus Solna, and is co-supervised with Prof. Nicolas Ruffin at Karolinska Institutet.

The project sits at the intersection of biology, medical science, neuroscience, physics, and biomedical engineering. It aims to study the molecular and cellular drivers of multiple sclerosis using advanced light microscopy, including super-resolution microscopy, with a particular focus on B-cell phenotype and function. The lab develops advanced microscopy, computational, and AI-driven methods to study biological systems, making this a strong fit for candidates interested in quantitative imaging and experimental biomedicine.

Applicants should have a master’s degree or equivalent in biology, biochemistry, immunology, biophysics, bioengineering, or a closely related field. Strong hands-on laboratory experience is required, especially sample preparation for fluorescence microscopy. Experience with advanced light microscopy, immune cell culture, image analysis, or programming is highly desirable. A strong interest in MS research and immunology is essential. Stockholm University also notes formal PhD eligibility requirements in physics or chemistry and advanced coursework in biophysics/biochemistry/physical chemistry.
