About this position

PhD opportunity in Battery Science, Solid-State Batteries, Electrochemistry, and X-ray/Neutron Imaging at LEPMI Laboratory, Université Grenoble Alpes, France.

The project focuses on next-generation lithium-based solid-state batteries (LiSSBs), including multi-stack pouch cell design and optimization, in-situ X-ray and neutron laminography imaging, and analysis of failure mechanisms and performance degradation. The student will work at the intersection of battery materials, electrochemical characterization, mechanical characterization, advanced imaging, and data analysis.

The PhD is hosted at LEPMI and the student will be integrated into the MIEL team (Materials, Interfaces, Electrochemistry). The project also involves a broader consortium with expertise in neutron imaging, X-ray imaging, mechanics and instrumentation, and advanced image analysis.

Funding: fully funded PhD for the period October 2026 to September 2029.

Eligibility highlights: MSc in Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field; strong interest in electrochemistry and battery technologies; experience or knowledge in imaging techniques or solid-state materials is preferred; electrochemical and physico-chemical characterization skills are mandatory; X-ray or neutron imaging is highly valued.

Deadline: August 31, 2026 (23:59).

How to apply: submit the application through the Campus France doctoral portal or email the requested documents to Didier Devaux.
