About this position
PhD opportunity at the Université du Québec en Abitibi-Témiscamingue (UQAT) for a project on carbon and biodiversity in old-growth boreal forests.
The position is based at the Institut de recherche sur les forêts (IRF) in Rouyn-Noranda and focuses on the links between carbon storage and biodiversity in old-growth stands, including deadwood and dendromicrohabitats, as well as bryophyte and soil fungal communities studied through metabarcoding. A further component examines the recovery of old clearcuts (>50 years) toward old-growth characteristics.
This is a PhD opening with a stipend of CAD 24,500/year for 4 years. The ideal candidate holds a Master’s degree in biology, ecology, forest sciences, or a related field, and should have a strong interest in forest ecology, biodiversity, and fieldwork. Experience or interest in bryology or molecular biology is considered an asset.
To apply, send a CV, cover letter, transcripts, and two references to the supervisors by email.
