About this position

PhD opportunity at The Francis Crick Institute in circuit mechanisms underlying multisensory integration in the superior colliculus.

This funded PhD project with Florencia Iacaruso focuses on neuroscience, multisensory integration, superior colliculus, calcium imaging, and connectomics. The project asks how visual, auditory, and somatosensory inputs converge onto distinct neuronal populations and how cortical and subcortical circuits shape multisensory computations. Methods include custom hemispheric stimulation, two- and three-photon calcium imaging, and Barcoded Rabies In Situ Connectomics (BRISC) to map neural connectivity across the mouse brain.

Applicants should have a background in Neuroscience or Molecular Biology with strong quantitative interests, or in Bioengineering / Computational Biology with enthusiasm for experimental neuroscience or neurophysiology. Strong analytical ability is essential, and programming experience in Python or Matlab is highly advantageous. Experience with animals, in vivo recordings, or spatial transcriptomics is desirable but not required.

The position is funded and offers a non-taxable annual stipend of £27,715 plus university tuition fees. Students of all nationalities are eligible. The project is based in London, United Kingdom.

Use the FindAPhD project page to review the full details and apply through the Crick PhD programme. Prepare to describe any experience relevant to probing the functional architecture of the brain.
