About this position
PhD position in Clinical Natural Language Processing at Aalborg University, Denmark.
This full-time, 3-year PhD stipend is hosted by the Department of Clinical Medicine and the Clinical AI Group at the Center for Clinical Data Science (CLINDA), in collaboration with the Clinical Nursing Research Unit and hospitals in the North Denmark Region. The project sits at the intersection of computer science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, natural language processing, health data science, and medical science.
Research topics include clinical NLP for nursing documentation, large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), agent-based frameworks, electronic health records (EHRs), evidence synthesis, traceability, interpretability, human-in-the-loop approaches, and virtual human twin concepts. A key application is supporting nursing documentation, care planning, and clinical decision-making, especially identifying and preventing missed nursing care.
Applicants should have a Master’s degree and be eligible for PhD enrollment. The post seeks candidates with a background in computer science or a related field, strong Python programming skills, a mathematical foundation, and an interest in AI/NLP. Experience in health data science or a health-related field is a plus. English fluency is required; Danish or another Scandinavian language is an advantage because the work uses Danish clinical texts.
The stipend is funded as a paid PhD position under Danish employment terms. The PhD study includes coursework (30 ECTS), teaching or dissemination experience, and an external research stay outside Aalborg University, preferably 3–6 months abroad.
Deadline: 2026-11-02. Apply via Aalborg University’s recruitment system and submit the required documents: application letter, CV, diplomas, MSc thesis if available, references, and other relevant materials.
