About this position

PhD position at the University of Copenhagen in the Programming Languages and Theory of Computation (PLTC) Section, Department of Computer Science (DIKU), for research on compilation principles for reversible languages as part of the MSCA Doctoral Network E-CoRe (DC7).

The project focuses on reversible computing, programming languages, compiler design, program analysis, language semantics, optimization, and code generation. The successful candidate will study techniques for translating high-level reversible languages into efficient low-level reversible and irreversible representations, design optimization methods, implement prototype compilers, and publish results in conferences and journals.

This is a 3-year PhD position, funded by the European Union through Horizon Europe Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Networks. The post includes a monthly salary starting at DKK 31,845 plus pension contributions, with possible supplement depending on qualifications.

Eligibility: applicants must hold a master’s degree equivalent to a Danish master’s degree in Computer Science or a closely related field by the recruitment date. Strong academic record, motivation for doctoral research, proficiency in English, and willingness to travel for secondments are required. Experience in compiler design, program analysis, and language semantics is an advantage; prior knowledge of reversible computing is not required. The mobility rule for MSCA applies.

Work location is Copenhagen, Denmark. Planned secondments are at Technische Hochschule Mittelhessen (Germany) and the University of Manchester (UK). The application deadline is 1 November 2026.

Apply online in English via the university portal and include a motivation letter, CV, master’s diploma and transcript (or recent transcript/statement if not completed), and publication list if any.
