About this position

Politecnico di Milano is offering a fully funded PhD position in the field of Conservation of Cultural Heritage, as part of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Doctoral Network “CHARM” (Conservation Heritage Architecture, buildings and sites by Resilient Methods: hydro-climate factors). The position is based in Milan, Italy, and focuses on the sustainable conservation of architectural heritage, with a strong emphasis on addressing challenges related to climate change, environmental sustainability, and advanced materials and techniques for the restoration of historic built environments.

The CHARM project aims to develop new knowledge, materials, and methods for the sustainable conservation of architectural heritage in the context of changing climate, environment, society, and technology. The doctoral network will train 14 young researchers, providing advanced international and interdisciplinary training, and fostering collaboration with research institutions, industry, and decision-makers at various levels. Research topics include understanding damage processes in changing environments, developing conservation materials, AI-driven restoration methods, and tools for risk management and stakeholder participation in conservation efforts.

The PhD contract is for three years and includes a competitive MSCA salary with living, mobility, and family allowances. Applicants must have a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Architecture, Materials Science, Engineering, Archaeology, or related fields, and must comply with MSCA mobility rules (no prior PhD degree). Excellent English proficiency and strong motivation for research are required. The application deadline is April 15, 2026, with the program starting on September 15, 2026.

For more information and to apply, visit the official CHARM project website or the application portal. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in pursuing an international research career in cultural heritage conservation and climate resilience.
