About this position

PhD opportunity in control of cardiovascular inflammation at Goethe University Frankfurt, hosted through the Hector Fellow Academy and supervised by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Stefanie Dimmeler. The project is centered on non-coding RNAs in vascular biology, with a strong translational focus on cardiovascular repair, aging, and the mechanisms underlying heart disease.

The doctoral researcher will participate in experiments and biochemical investigations in cell biology, molecular biology, and physiology, using animal models and/or cell culture techniques. The work also includes exploring cellular heterogeneity in heart diseases and aging using novel technologies, planning and analyzing therapeutic targets in experimental disease models, and contributing to scientific manuscripts, conferences, and research networks.

Applicants should hold a master’s degree in Biochemistry, Molecular, Cellular or Medical Biology, or Medicine, with excellent grades. The post also asks for very good physiology knowledge, strong organizational and teamwork skills, basic bioinformatics and single-cell sequencing analysis experience, a FELASA certificate, and basic immunological knowledge with FACS experience; histology experience is preferred.

This is a funded PhD position (TV-GU 13, 65%) for 3 years with the possibility of a 1-year extension. The package includes extensive research funding, training and networking opportunities, and a LandesTicket Hessen for free public transport across Hesse.

Deadline: 2026-10-15. Apply via the Hector Fellow Academy application portal and submit the requested documents: motivation letter, CV, certificates, references, transcripts, and research exposé.
