About this position
TAGC laboratory at Aix-Marseille Université / INSERM U1090 in Marseille, France is recruiting a fully funded PhD candidate for a project on deep learning for genomics and L1 retrotransposon pathogenicity.
The research focuses on building machine learning and deep learning models to predict how novel L1 retrotransposon insertions affect gene transcriptional activity. The project combines public genomic datasets with in-house functional data and uses explainability approaches such as SHAP and in-silico mutagenesis to generate testable biological hypotheses.
Supervision is by Aitor González (Maître de conférences / MCF-HDR, Aix-Marseille Université) in collaboration with Gaël Cristofari (DR1, Inserm, IRCAN, Nice), with expertise in L1 biology and genomics.
Applicants should have a Master's degree in bioinformatics or a related field and a strong interest in ML/DL, genomics, genetics, and computational biology. The position is reviewed on a rolling basis until filled.
To apply, send a cover letter, CV, and contacts for two reference letters to [email protected].
