About this position
PhD position at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the project “Welding Made Easy”, focused on developing magnetic nanomaterials for smart composite welding.

The wider consortium includes partners such as Airbus, GKN, and DLR.
Research topics include colloidal synthesis of magnetic nanoparticles such as Mn-Fe ferrite alloys, surface functionalisation for stable dispersion in polymers, structural and compositional characterisation (XRD, XPS, TEM, NMR), magnetic measurements (SQUID, VSM, magneto-thermogravimetric analysis), and linking nanoparticle composition to magnetic heating performance for polymer welding.
Applicants should have a completed Master’s degree in physical chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or a closely related field. Experience with colloidal nanoparticle synthesis, surface chemistry, XRD/TEM/XPS, or magnetic characterisation is desirable. English proficiency is required for PhD study at TU Delft.
This is a full-time PhD position with a 4-year employment structure in principle. Salary ranges from €3204 to €4051 gross per month, plus holiday allowance and an end-of-year bonus. The position is based at TU Delft in the Netherlands, with access to state-of-the-art facilities and collaboration across Europe.
