About this position

The project focuses on electrochemical oxyanion monitoring using ionic/redox biopolymer-bioelectrode interfaces for diagnostics and sports. The doctoral research will be carried out between the Department of Molecular Chemistry (DCM) and the CERMAV Polysaccharides Institute, with supervision by Dr. Andrew J. Gross (CNRS) and Prof. Rachel Auzély (UGA).

Research themes include enzymatic bioelectrochemistry, chemical modification and crosslinking of polysaccharides, hydrogel-modified bioelectrodes, surface chemistry, enzyme wiring, selectivity/stability/biocompatibility of sensors, and in vitro/in vivo validation. The broader goal is to develop continuous detection platforms for biological markers under challenging conditions and to support future bioelectrochemical medical devices and point-of-care diagnostics.

This is a fully funded PhD supported by Labex GIMED under public/private funding. The position is based in Grenoble, France, with possible collaboration with the Faculty of Medicine (HP2) and the Lyon Neurosciences Research Center (CRNL).

Eligibility highlights: a background in electrochemistry or polymer chemistry is required; a Master’s degree or equivalent is expected. Experience in surface functionalisation and characterisation is desirable. Strong English skills, critical thinking, creativity, curiosity, self-motivation, and the ability to work collaboratively are emphasized.
