About this position
CIRAD is recruiting a PhD candidate for the CARE (Community Awareness and Response for Emerging Zoonotic Outbreaks) project, focused on the epidemiological and economic evaluation of a community-led zoonotic disease risk reduction approach. The project sits at the intersection of One Health, epidemiology, health economics, and public health, with a strong emphasis on community co-designed interventions and participatory research.
The successful PhD student will work on assessing the epidemiological, health, and socio-economic impacts of interventions aimed at reducing zoonotic disease risks in Zimbabwe. The work involves field investigations, data collection and analysis, participatory methods, surveillance-related approaches, and community engagement. The position is embedded in a multidisciplinary team involving CIRAD, the Institut Pasteur, and the University of Zimbabwe.
Location: Montpellier, France and Harare, Zimbabwe.
Funding: PhD salary of €2,300 gross/month.
Eligibility highlights: Applicants should hold a Master's degree in epidemiology, public health, veterinary public health, or a related field. Strong data collection and analysis skills are expected. Experience with epidemiological surveys, surveillance systems, or participatory methods is an asset. A minimum B2 level in English is required; French is appreciated but not mandatory. A valid driving licence recognized in Zimbabwe is also required.

Funding details
Full funding including tuition fees and living expenses is available for this position. The scholarship covers all educational costs and provides a monthly stipend.
