About this position
PhD opportunity in Functional Genetics and Genomics of Cardiovascular Diseases at Université Laval, Canada.
The laboratory of Dr. Patrick Mathieu at the Centre de recherche, Institut universitaire de cardiologie et pneumologie (IUCPQ), Université Laval, is recruiting a motivated doctoral student to study the genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying cardiovascular diseases, including aortic stenosis and coronary artery disease.
This project focuses on non-coding regulatory elements, genetic variants, gene expression control, chromatin regulation, enhancers, and 3D genome organization. The lab uses modern genomic and molecular approaches such as ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, HiChIP, Hi-C, CRISPRi perturbation screens, qRT-PCR, western blotting, and cell culture, with an emphasis on human primary cardiac/valve cells and patient-derived tissues.
Ideal candidates should hold a master’s degree in biomedical sciences, biology, biochemistry, microbiology, or bioinformatics (or equivalent). Strong knowledge of cell and molecular biology, solid wet-lab skills, analytical thinking, autonomy, and excellent scientific communication in English and French are expected. Experience or strong interest in bioinformatics, genomic data analysis (ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq, GWAS, RNA-seq, 3D genome), and programming in Bash, R, or Python is an advantage.
The position is supported by public funding from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). The starting date is 2027-01-04, and the application deadline is 2026-09-30.
For more information, see the IUCPQ research center, the Université Laval PhD program in Molecular Medicine, and the Patrick Mathieu lab website.
